Focus and Scope of the Journal

Causality (caui3) is a bilingual (Spanish and English) digital scientific journal published twice a year, designed to disseminate cutting-edge research and technological innovations in the industrial and construction sectors. Inspired by the fundamental principle of causality—the interconnected relationship between cause and effect as applied to the scientific method—the journal covers key subject areas such as:

  • Automation and Robotics: Embedded systems, mobile robotics, autonomous navigation, and computer vision.
  • Computer Engineering and Industry 4.0: Artificial intelligence, machine learning, process optimization, and IoT environments.
  • Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering: Composite materials, ergonomics, modular furniture, and advanced manufacturing.
  • Ergonomics, Assistive Technology, and Education 4.0: Digital health devices, personalized rehabilitation, and technological inclusion.

Its target audience consists of researchers, faculty members, students, and professionals in the industrial sector, as well as consultants and engineers interested in the development, evaluation, and transfer of rigorous technical knowledge.

Open Access Policy

Causality is fully committed to the Diamond Open Access model. All scientific articles, state-of-the-art reviews, and preprints are available in full text (in PDF, HTML, and XML-JATS formats) immediately, freely, and at no cost.

Aviso de Derechos de Autor y Licenciamiento

The journal's content is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

  • Author and Reader Permissions: Copying, distribution, adaptation and remixing of the material by any means or format is authorized, even for commercial purposes, with the sole requirement of giving proper credit to the original author and citing the primary source (Causality).
  • Transfer and Retention of Rights: Authorship policies guide researchers’ visibility by establishing a transfer of exploitation rights to the publisher to ensure the preservation of and perpetual access to the archives.

Sponsorship and Publishing Institution Statement

The strategic direction and operational management of the journal Causality are driven and independently funded by Editorial Puruhá, an entity registered under the supervision of the Superintendence of Companies, Securities, and Insurance of Ecuador (Supercias). The publishing house provides the necessary technological and financial resources to support the peer-review process and digital infrastructure without passing costs on to readers.

Peer Review Process and Editorial Procedure

To ensure technical rigor, methodological validity, and ethical integrity, every submitted manuscript is reviewed according to a rigorous protocol:

  • Preliminary Review (Desk Review): The editorial team verifies alignment with the thematic scope, the use of an impersonal/third-person voice, adherence to IEEE citation standards, and textual similarity using anti-plagiarism software.
  • External Blind Peer Review: Two qualified evaluators from outside the committee analyze originality, the validity of mathematical formulations and simulations, compliance with technical standards (ASME, NEC, etc.), and experimental reproducibility.
  • Final Decision: Issued as Accepted, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Rejected.

History of the Journal

Inspired by the principle of scientific interconnection, the journal began its editorial and indexing operations in 2025 with its first volume, dedicated to authors who contributed pioneering research in mechatronics and industrial engineering.

Privacy and Data Protection Statement

Names, institutional affiliations, ORCID iDs, and email addresses registered on the Causality Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform will be used confidentially and exclusively for the stipulated purposes of notifying users of updates, managing peer review, and ensuring academic metadata interoperability. They will not be shared, sold, or transferred to third parties, nor used for purposes unrelated to editorial dissemination.

Digital Preservation and Interoperability (LOCKSS / OAI-PMH)

To prevent the loss of information and ensure the permanent availability of scientific knowledge on the web:

  • Digital Preservation: The platform implements the harvesting and inclusion of its volumes in international digital preservation networks using LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) systems, ensuring decentralized copies in libraries across the global network.
  • Interoperability: It utilizes the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) metadata architecture, ensuring that published files are efficiently harvested and indexed by repositories, academic search engines (Google Scholar, Crossref), and international indexed databases.
